A Note From Our Founder

I’ve been at the helm of Sea-Legs, Inc. and at the helm of our boats, for nearly two decades. We do a lot of good for so many children, but this role is more than a matter of “me giving to them”—the benefits are mutual.

Grandfathers, sailors, and retired teachers (I’m all three) love to share their know-how with almost anyone who will listen and I suspect that this love—under the right circumstances—is universal.

The Sea, as a setting, lends itself to this feeling:

When we’re all in the same boat, it behooves each of us to contribute what we can to see that the voyage is safe and enjoyable and that we arrive at the snug harbor we had planned to reach. We experience these small triumphs every day that we’re on the water.

Just as we welcome new crew members aboard our boats, we welcome new supporters into our collective crew of donors—the team that keeps Sea-Legs, Inc. afloat. This team is more numerous, older, and more experienced than the children who join us on the boats, but in a larger sense: “We (too) are all in the same boat.”
